THE CONFERENCE CENTRE

The building, designed by Lord Norman Foster (Prince of Asturias award winner), was given the prestigious Architecture Award for best European building by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in 1999.

Today the Valencia Conference Centre is one of the most emblematic buildings in the city of Valencia, hosting numerous national and international conferences and congresses, business conventions and events of all kinds. It has played a key role in the urban development and expansion of the northwest district of the city. It has, in fact, become the core of a new and thriving business area which has grown up around the building, as well as a new, modern residential district with a wide range of services.

The Valencia Conference Centre has been committed to the environment since it opened its doors for the first time. In 2008, an initiative based on the use of natural resources as the main source of energy, enabled the Centre to install a unique 8,200 m² photovoltaic roof, which is the largest amorphous silicon solar panel installation in a building of this kind. The result was 2,100 photovoltaic modules installed on aluminum panels which have generated over 540,000 kWh of energy. In addition, the system has avoided the emission of 280 tonnes of carbon dioxide which would have required over 95,000 trees to absorb it.

SYMPOSIUM EVENING AT THE CITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES:
PRIVATE VISIT TO THE OCEANOGRAFIC & COCKTAIL RECEPTION.

The cost of the event is 54 € V.A.T. included. DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: 3th of September. BOOK NOW

When the City of Arts and Sciences closes its doors to the public, ISC attendees will have the opportunity to make a private visit to the two aquaria of the Oceànografic. Expert guides will show the characteristics and curiosities of all the species living in the aquaria.

Each group will have its own guide. The tour will take about one hour in which two aquaria will be visited. After the guided tour, a reception with Canapés and drinks will be served in the Paseu Sur of the Science Museum, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of all the buildings of the City of Arts and Sciences.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VISITS:

Aquarium 1: Oceans

The twin structure tower has a volume of 7 million m³, is the biggest aquarium in the Oceanogràfic and one of the largest in the world.

It recreates a trip to the Atlantic Ocean, from the Canarian Isles to the Bermuda Islands through a transparent acrylic tunnel of about 30 metres in length, where you will be able to see species such as the nurse shark, the grey shark and the moon fish, among others.
Aquarium 2:

Arctic:
In this area, with the shape and appearance of an igloo, you can see marine mammals from the Arctic: the beluga whale and the walrus. The Beluga whales are small white whales that makes sounds similar to warbling, for this reason they are called ‘canaries of the sea’. The variety of gestures and head movements, such as yawning or smiling, make them very friendly. In this area we can also see walruses with their huge tusks, while they rest on air-conditioned beaches.

Antarctic:
Recreation of a rocky cliff for a colony of penguins, with special areas for laying eggs and breeding. In the plunged part of the cliff you can see penguins swimming quickly and easily underwater with graceful movements.

ARCHITECTURE OF THE CITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES.

The City of Arts and Sciences is an ensemble of five areas in the dry river bed of the now diverted River Turia in Valencia, Spain. Designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava and started in July 1996, it is an impressive example of modern architecture. The "city" is made up of the following, usually known by their Valencian names: El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía — Opera house and performing arts centre; L'Hemisfèric — Imax Cinema, Planetarium and Laserium; L'Umbracle — Walkway / Garden; El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe — Science museum; L'Oceanogràfic — Open-air oceanographic park. Surrounded by attractive streams and pools of water, it and the surrounding areas of the "city" are typically used as a relaxing place to walk day or night, with an open air bar outside El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe during the evening.

In the Las Arenas Spa Resort Hotel of Valencia, design has consciously been taken into account so that the hotel overlooks the sea. Only a few minutes from the city centre, it enjoys a privileged location on Las Arenas beachfront, looking out over the sea.

Why not putting on your swimsuit and having a dip before the dinner!

The Hotel is situated in the old Las Arenas Spa, dating from the end of the 19th Century, which was a meeting place for the high social class. In the old days, the Spa used to offer its visitors warm sea or ‘wave’ bathing with surprising results for those suffering from traumatisms, arthritis and nervous diseases.

The construction of the new Las Arenas Spa Resort Hotel began in 2002. The only buildings that remain from the original structure are the pool area and one of the colonnades; the other colonnades were destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. The existing colonnade was completely restored and a new one, identical to the destroyed original, was built.
